Tangermünde is one of a group of north German towns wich have been preserved to look as they did in the Middle Ages. Unchanged for centuries, the visitor can actually see the town in its original form. The town was built 800 years ago under the protection of the castle, wich also dates back to the Middle Ages. Both town and castle are situated behind a beautiful wetland plain, on the confluence of the River Tanger and the River Elbe.
